I didn’t know! This is fascinating. I love thinking about how there could be areas that large without religion seeping into everything!

I was just thinking about how when I was a kid, my understanding was that everyone was assumed default Christian unless there was some reason they weren’t. Kids were so mean to me about being Jewish because they had no way to fit in their head someone who wasn’t Christian, so they literally thought I was a devil.

Now I live in hippieville. A friend of mine just showed me a silhouette of a person praying next to their bed, a picture from a children’s book. She said she asked her children, “What do you think this person is doing?” The 8-year-old said meditating. The 6-year-old said yoga.

I showed it to my 5-year-old, and she said, “I don’t know, making their bed?”

I felt this huge relief that I’ve protected her from religion, at least from this idea that Christianity is a default.
