I had this conversation with a dear friend just last night. He has a high-paying job with benefits. He mentioned the company he works for uses UserTesting, so I thought I’d share for him what it’s like to be on the other side of that, all the unpaid labor I’ve done, just for the chance to make $10 for doing a user test (and how the people on the other end don’t see the unpaid labor, because it’s just built into the system)… what it’s like to balance that with parenting, how to balance all the gigs I do. His response was to do something different then. Then he said, “You’re good at writing. Try harder at that.” I ended up in tears, saying, “I. AM. TRYING. VERY HARD.”
