I just had to sign off on my kindergartener’s school district handbook.
I was really pleased to see a massive section on bullying/harassment, with a long list of protected classes, including “sexual orientation, and gender expression or identity.”
I fear this doesn’t play out as well in reality as it does on paper— a recent grad told me administration was horrible to her based on her being queer, and there’s no GSA — but my hope is they’re very recently trying to do better. I’ll definitely be right there pushing the school to do right by all kids.
Thank you for sharing this sad story.
