I’m not a fan of “Men are trash.”

I get why people say it out of frustration, but I love that replacement: “Men can and should do better.”

I’m friends with a lot of feminist parents raising little boys. Their sons are hearing society and coming to their moms saying, “Am I bad because I’m a boy?” And I’m talking about 3- and 4-year-olds here.

Yes, these little boys (and all people) need to learn about the problems with the patriarchy, but kind, empathetic little people with penises shouldn’t all have to internalize self-hatred in order to pay the price of growing up as feminists.

So from that perspective, I want a feminist culture that raises all young people to respect each other without anyone fearing they’re less than because of their parts or their gender identity.

Great thoughtful piece, ZUVA !
