procured, that just … products are procured, that just talking about the most basic information can be shocking to them. When I mentioned that the dairy-veal relationship is what got me to go vegan, it was really just learning the simple fact that cows aren’t just milk fountains, endlessly spraying everywhere, that they need to have babies to produce milk, and that those babies are then sold to veal farms. I had no idea (in my defense, I didn’t meet a lot of cows while growing up in Philadelphia).
So much this!
When I had a kid, I’d already been vegan 13 years, but the experience of nursing really reignited my passion about it. I couldn’t believe my omnivore friends were dealing with all the emotions and exhaustion of feeding their mammal babies from their bodies, and continuing to eat dairy. I had mastitis at one point, which until then, I had only heard of in terms of cows. The connection was so intense for me.
But, really, unless someone’s seeking out info about veganism, they often have never made the connection that cows are just another mammal that gets pregnant and then creates milk for their baby.
Yay for you! Yay for veganism! Yay for your friend!
