Thanks for writing this. You’re a top writer in most of the things I am and a ton more too. I know there must be lotsa other money-makers writing about totally different stuff, but you’re certainly the main inspiration for me!
I just cracked $100 last month and was overjoyed; feels like it’s building. I have a 4yo as well. I have a partner, but we’re both stubbornly trying to make money off our art rather than regular jobs.
I’m curious (maybe you can do another piece about this soon) your thoughts on writing for publications vs. just self-publishing. How do you decide when to do which? I’ve been publishing a lot in P.S. I Love You, and it certainly seems like those pieces are seen way more than self-published stuff, but I keep having drafts that stay unpublished because I really care about them and don’t want to “waste” them by just hitting Publish rather than finding the right publication fit for them. Maybe you have enough followers now that your writing gets seen whether it’s in a publication or not?
Thanks for keeping it real.
