The vast riches of this nation (plenty to share more with people already here and others yet to come) are not the same as one writer’s assets.

That said, I can’t speak for John, but I signed up yesterday to apply to be a refugee sponsor, so someone or someones who doesn’t know anyone could stay with our family while they get their bearings and work through legal issues.

But someone does not need to do that in order for empathy and generosity to be the right response. We can all help in different ways. Writing and speaking out as John is doing is one way to use skills to help others.
