This so much! If I give somebody 50 a bunch of times and then give less, I’m afraid they’ll notice and overthink it. But you want a way to show that one was extra-special. But I figure we do that by highlighting.

I think so far everything Medium has told is that highlighting and comments don’t factor into how people’s $5 are dispersed (just claps and read time). That said, they are good for morale, for making other readers take note, and I have no idea if maybe they tell the algorithm to share the writing more.
